WASHINGTON D.C. — A coach bus which was carrying 50 passengers from Washington D.C. to New Jersey crashed into an overpass at Newark Penn Station. Dozens are sent to the hospital, officials say.
The bus was operated by Liberty Coach Inc. and fifty people were on the bus in the moment of the accident. The bus was smashed into the overpass at Edison Place and Alling Street, which is next to the Market Street overpass entrance of the station. The accident took place just before midnight Sunday night, authorities said.
All of the injured passengers are in stable condition and are expected to survive.
The company which was in charge of arranging the bus for the passengers, Ourbus said that the bus was nearing the trip to Penn when a barrel appeared into the overpass.
No rashes involving Liberty Coach Inc. had been reported in the last 2 years before Sunday’s collision, added Ourbus. Liberty Coach Inc. didn’t immediately answer to the comment.
A video from the police department showed the scene of a two-level bus with the front of it completely ripped off and dozens of the fire.
The investigation of the crash is ongoing. No immediate information is available about the motive.
