New York City – Black Lives Matter, a national organization for the equality of POC’s has been protesting over the death of George Floyd and Breonna Taylor for the past month. Now, they are setting their sites on President Trump’s famous “Trump Tower”.
The city plans to paint “Black Lives matter” in front of Trump Tower as Washington DC did to the White House.
“The president is a disgrace to the values we cherish in New York City,” Julia Arredondo, a spokeswoman for Mayor de Blasio. “He can’t run or deny the reality we are facing, and any time he wants to set foot in the place he claims is his hometown, he should be reminded Black Lives Matter.”
Throughout the nation, massive civil rights protests have gathered in solidarity of the unjustified murder of both Breonna Taylor and George Floyd.
Many are joining against police brutality. While the United states spends more than double the amount of their police force versus other beneficial programs – the focus of how we represent our taxpayer dollars doesn’t quite add up to a better future.
For many, thought thought of over-exasperated tax dollar going to enforcing themselves does not add up.
Black Lives Matter And Police Funding
“Why would I voluntarily fund actions against my own interests?” says one protester who wishes to remain anonymous.
For many others, they see the inherent racism that goes on from both the police and government officials. The taking down of Confederate monuments has also been a topic of consideration.
Throughout the United States history, POCs have been the subject of enforcement. This enforcement has roots in racism as far back as the emancipation of slavery.
To date, the question still stands:
Will Black Lives Matter? Or will the history of the United States continue to brush over funded police brutality under the rug for another hundred years?
